Vacuum cleaners are not cheap items, so it is important to look after yours. Here are our top tips for taking care of your cleaner, which will keep it running properly for as long as possible.
Proper maintenance is key
Most vacuum cleaner repairs are not expensive, but it makes sense to maintain your cleaner properly, so you that you can avoid the inconvenience of having to send yours away for repair. Fortunately, maintaining a Hoover is not complicated. You can do most of it yourself.
Empty your cleaner regularly
Perhaps the most important step is to empty your vacuum on a regular basis. The best approach is to check whether your cleaner needs emptying each time.
Failing that, empty it at least once a month. I find it easiest to empty my cleaner on the first Saturday of each month. This ensures that I do not forget to do it.
Clean the filters
Cleaning the filters is just as important as emptying the dust bag. Dirty filters do more damage than anything else does. A clogged up filter stops air from flowing properly around the cleaner. This increases the chances of the motor overheating.
Dirty filters also stop your vacuum from working properly. They stop fine dust from staying trapped inside the machine, so there are several reasons for cleaning your filters on a regular basis.
Change the bag, filters and bushes regularly
Some models need to have new bags, filters and bushes replaced periodically. You will know from the instruction manual whether this is the case. If you do own a model that needs these parts replaced on a regular basis take the time to do so. Doing this is the best way to ensure that your vacuum keeps working efficiently for many years.
Have your vacuum cleaner serviced regularly
Regardless of how well you look after your cleaner it still needs to be serviced on a regular basis. Of course, having your cleaner serviced costs money, but in the long run, it will save you cash because your vacuum will keep working for longer.
